Christina Miyagi

Christina was born in Tokyo, Japan and moved to California at the age of 5. She grew up in a small town that valued the arts and was exposed to many classes including basket weaving and ceramic arts in her elementary years. During her preadolescent years, she was exposed to punk rock by her best friend, which put her sewing skills to good use as she began customizing her clothes. Her interest in fashion grew and after graduating from high school, she packed her bags and flew over the pacific ocean back to Tokyo.

There, she studied fashion design at Tokyo Designer Gakuin College (TDG). After graduation, she began working as a buyer's assistant/translator for a chain of vintage clothing companies throughout Japan. After gaining experience in the industry, she decided there was much more she wanted to learn and returned to California to study at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. There she discovered her love of textile design, the perfect mix of everything she wanted to do. It was messy, it was colorful, it was 2D, 3D, paper, fabric, drawing, painting, digital, silk screen, chemical, steam, heat, everything. It was fantastic.

As a recent graduate, she is excited to start a career in textile design. She hopes to keep developing her personal style as well as work with others to challenge herself to new visions. She loves to travel and hopes to make it around the globe to discover other worlds in textiles.
